SAFPA Conference Focuses on Trust, Dignity and Better Service for Families

Day two of the SAFPA International Conference 2026 brought together funeral practitioners, insurers and industry leaders under one roof, with discussions centred on improving customer protection, transparency and cooperation within the funeral sector.

Beyond the formal presentations and policy discussions, the conference highlighted the human side of the industry — the families who rely on funeral practitioners during some of the most painful moments of their lives.

Dr N Khumalo speaker stressed the need for stronger data protection regulations, ethical standards and closer collaboration between funeral service providers and insurers. Delegates also explored ways to create learning platforms that will help smaller operators grow and better serve their communities.

One of the key messages of the day was that funeral practitioners are often the first point of comfort for grieving families, making their role far more than just business. Industry leaders said competition should not divide stakeholders, but instead encourage innovation, transparency and better service delivery for customers.

Attendees described the conference as an important platform for sharing knowledge and building partnerships that can uplift the sector while protecting consumers. For many small business owners attending the conference, the event also created hope for a more united industry that values dignity, trust and compassion alongside business growth.
